April is National Car Care Month!
by Kelly O'Neill | Apr 3, 2017 | 802 Toyota
Spring cleaning isn't just for your house! Most cars took a beating this winter from pot-hole filled roads, mud, ice, snow and sleet, so spend this April and get your car looking and feeling like new! Here's a helpful list of items that should be be checked on your vehicle to make sure it's in tip-top shape: Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant. Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or showing signs of excessive wear. Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free. Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage and broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous and must be corrected without delay. Schedule a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and produce the lowest level of emissions. Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for interior comfort and for safety reasons such as defrosting. Inspect the steering and suspension system annually including shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends and other related components. Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. Check the wipers and lighting so that you...

Winter Driving Safety Tips from AAA!
by Kelly O'Neill | Feb 2, 2017 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, Twin City Subaru
Winter Driving Tips from AAA Severe weather can be both frightening and dangerous for automobile travel. Motorists should know the safety rules for dealing with winter road emergencies. AAA reminds motorists to be cautious while driving in adverse weather. AAA recommends the following winter driving tips: Avoid driving while you're fatigued. Getting the proper amount of rest before taking on winter weather tasks reduces driving risks. Never run a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage. Make certain your tires are properly inflated. Keep your gas tank at least half full. If possible, avoid using your parking brake in cold, rainy and snowy weather. Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface (wet, ice, sand). Always look and steer where you want to go. Use your seat belt every time you get into your vehicle. Tips for long-distance winter trips: Watch weather reports prior to a long-distance drive or before driving in isolated areas. Delay trips when especially bad weather is expected. If you must leave, let others know your route, destination and estimated time of arrival. Always make sure your vehicle is in peak operating condition by having it inspected. Keep at least half a tank of gasoline in your vehicle at all times. Pack a cellphone with your local AAA's telephone number, plus blankets, gloves, hats, food, water and any needed medication in your vehicle. If you become snow-bound, stay with your vehicle. It provides temporary shelter and makes it easier for rescuers to locate you. Don't try to walk in a severe storm. It's easy to lose sight of your vehicle...

The 802 Cars Cruisaders team exceeded their goal of 802 laps by walking 1,320 laps at the 2016 Relay for Life of Central Vermont! The Relay for Life of Central Vermont took place on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Spaulding High School in Barre, VT. The sun was shining, bands were playing, creamies were devoured, games were played, survivors, caregivers, family and friends walked and ran laps, and fundraising continued from 11:00 am until midnight! Team 802 Cars Cruisaders had such a blast the past few months fundraising for the event, including the Purple Pie Challenge, $5 Friday BBQ lunches, and Casual Friday's at each dealership located in Berlin, VT. The team raised over $15,000 with more donations still trickling in, making them the 1st place fundraising team at this particular Relay. Dave Birmingham, chief Dog Walker & owner of 802Cars.com, received a 2nd place trophy for his individual fundraising efforts. Over 30 walkers and runners joined the 802 Cars Cruisaders team throughout the day to help make their goal of 802 laps. This included an ultra-marathoner & 16 friends and family members of Dale Arleth: an employee of 802 Toyota who passed away from cancer in 2015. Oh, and we can't forget some of Dave Birmingham's family members that traveled over 300 miles to join in and walk over 300 miles at the Relay! We would like to thank everyone who contributed, walked, ran, fundraised, and joined us in our efforts to raise much needed funds for the American Cancer Society. Every donation makes a difference! April is National Car Care Month!
by Kelly O'Neill | Apr 4, 2016 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota

Reasons to Buy a Toyota
by Kelly O'Neill | Jan 11, 2016 | 802 Toyota
There are many reasons to buy a Toyota but we have narrowed it down to eight very good reasons why your next vehicle purchase should be a Toyota. Number 1: Safety Why were 6 Toyota vehicles named "Top Safety Picks" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2015? Because Toyota designs them with the knowledge that safety is more than features — it's the lives of the people who drive our cars. For Toyota, the journey towards a safe road never ends. This belief, along with collaborative research efforts, drives Toyota to create advancements and innovations in safety that have helped (and continue to help) prevent crashes and protect people. Number 2: Durability Based on IHS Automotive: Polk U.S. Vehicles In Operation vs. new vehicle registrations for MY 1995-2014, Toyota has the highest percentage of vehicles still on the road today. 80% of Toyotas sold in the last 20 years are still on the road today, which tells you how long lasting and durable Toyota's can be. Toyota is also proud to say that they are the most fuel-efficient and the greatest durability of any full-line automotive manufacturer. Number 3: Value Since 2011, Toyota has won over 70 Kelley Blue Book awards and accolades, including Best Resale Value three years in a row! In 2014 alone, Toyota had four vehicles in the Kelley Blue Book Best Retail Value: Top Ten Cars list and Toyota had the top two spots on that list, led by the remarkably resilient Toyota FJ Cruiser. Number 4: Environmentally Friendly (Green) Vehicles Toyota, one of the most environment friendly car companies, is a leading company in the development and...

At 802 Toyota Scion, our service department is already preparing for the winter months and booking appointments to mount winter tires. Right now you can get quality tires at a great price. During the Toyota Tire Savings Event, buy 3 tires and get the 4th one for a dollar. The 802 Toyota Tire Center provides tire options in all approved sizes to meet most customers' brand preferences. Competitively priced tires are selected to provide an exceptional driving experience with characteristics including superior handling for wet or dry traction, stability, tread life, acoustics, comfort and rolling resistance, which impacts fuel economy. A Thursday Night at Thunder Road Speedbowl
by Kelly O'Neill | Jul 17, 2015 | 802 Honda, 802 Scion, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, Twin City Subaru
We had the chance to spend the day with the Hallstrom Motorsports team on race day and we have to say, it was so much fun! The 802Cars.com #1 Camry is driven by Shawn Fluery, who is a Subaru Technician at Twin City Subaru by day and a race car driver by night. Before the races we met the Hallstrom Motorsports team at their shop in Northfield, VT, and watched as they prepared the car for the race before loading it up into their very well-equipped Hallstrom Motorsports trailer. The Hallstrom Motorsports team is family and they love what they do. They are a top late model race team owned by husband and wife duo Louis and Lisa Hallstrom. The team fields winning race cars in the ACT Tour and Thunder Road. This family takes their racing very seriously and has for decades. Lisa and Louis have two sons, Evan and Will. Evan, 13, also a driver for Hallstrom Motorsports, races Dare Devil and Street Stock at Speedway 51 in New Hampshire. They also have a dedicated crew of 11 who work tirelessly to make the #1 Camry the best it can be. Once at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT, we entered the "pit" and got an exclusive look at what happens before the race. There is always a rush to get there on time to purchase the required tires for the race, then there is the waiting around for the practice laps and the quick tune ups between those laps. Then it's race time! The first races are made up of qualifying rounds. If you make the top...
Toyota Tops the Cars.com 2015 American-Made Index
by Kelly O'Neill | Jul 2, 2015 | 802 Toyota
Cars.com Names Toyota Camry as Most American-Made… Again! The results are in, and Cars.com has named two Toyota models as most American-Made. The Toyota Camry and the Toyota Sienna have claimed the top two spots, respectively, in the annual Cars.com American-Made Index. This marks Toyota's return to the American-Made pinnacle for the first time in three years and the fifth time overall that Camry has been ranked number one on the index. According to Cars.com, the "American-Made Index rates vehicles built and bought in the United States. Factors include the percentage of parts considered "domestic" under federal regulations, whether the car is assembled in the U.S. and U.S. sales. Models with domestic-parts content ratings below 75 percent are disqualified, as well as models built exclusively outside the U.S. or models soon to be discontinued without a U.S.-built successor. "These results are a testament to Toyota's continued investment and growth in the United States," said Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz, who also serves as President of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing, North America, Inc. "We are strengthening our commitments to American manufacturing so we can better satisfy the needs of our customers for decades to come." The Toyota Camry, America's best-selling car for 13 consecutive years, comes out of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) in Georgetown, Ky. alongside the Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Avalon Hybrid. TMMK is Toyota's largest manufacturing facility in North America, which also builds engines and employs more than 7,500. The plant built its 10-millionth vehicle in 2014 and will begin adding the Lexus ES to...

by cara | Jun 3, 2015 | 802 Honda, 802 Scion, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802Cars.com Community, Twin City Subaru
For the second consecutive year 802Cars.com (and our family of auto dealerships) is helping to lead the fight against cancer in Central Vermont! We are proud to be a state-wide sponsor for the 2015 Vermont series of Relay for Life events. These life-changing events give us a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, raise funds and awareness, and fight back against the disease. Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement. As of June 6 this year, there are 48 teams and 220 participants that have raised $21,217.22 for the Relay for Life of Central Vermont. Last year we participated in the Nordic Style Relay Event as team 802Cars.com and contributed just over $20,0oo to the fight against cancer in Vermont. This year we will be known as the 802Cars Cruisaders and will be participating a little closer to home in the Relay for Life of Central Vermont, which will be held at Spaulding High School on June 19th at 6pm. Also this year, 802 Honda is the official off-site "Relay Hotspot" in Central VT! Which means Relay participants can go to 802 Honda to collect items they may need such as luminaria bags and donation envelopes. Our Relay team is working hard to beat last year's total contribution, which means our goal for this year is $25,000! That is a lofty goal, but we know we can do it and how far that amount of money can go to help cancer patients and survivors right here in Vermont. Dave Birmingham, owner of 802Cars.com believes it's important that we...

April is National Car Care Month!
by Kelly O'Neill | Apr 7, 2015 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota
Spring cleaning isn't just for your house! April is National Car Care month and after the winter we just had, regular maintenance is most likely required on your vehicle. Most cars took a beating, so spend this April and get your car looking and feeling like new. Here's a helpful list on what should be checked on your vehicle: Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant. Check the wipers and lighting so...

Safety Tips for Driving in Snow and Ice
by Kelly O'Neill | Nov 10, 2014 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota
Understanding how to drive safely in snow and ice is very important for you and other people on the road. Younger drivers may not feel comfortable driving in snow due to either the lack of knowledge on how to properly stay safe while driving or they may just be scared. Vermont is known to have very snowy winters and below zero days. We want you to stay safe out there and below are safety tips for driving in snow and ice. The three key elements to safe winter driving are: Stay alert; Slow down; and Stay in control! Here are some safe-driving tips that will help you when roads are slick with ice or snow: Get the feel of the road by starting out slowly and testing your steering control and braking ability. Avoid spinning your tires when you start by gently pressing your gas pedal until the car starts to roll. Start slowing down at least three times sooner than you normally would when turning or stopping. Equip your vehicle with chains or snow tires. Chains are by far the most effective, and they should be used where ice and snow remain on the roadway. Remember that snow tires will slide on ice or packed snow so keep your distance. Reduce your speed to correspond with conditions. There is no such thing as a "safe" speed range at which you may drive on snow or ice. You must be extremely cautious until you are able to determine how much traction you can expect from your tires. When stopping, avoid sudden movements of the steering wheel and pump the brake...

Toyota is the Global Leader in Hybrid Sales
by Kelly O'Neill | Oct 20, 2014 | 802 Toyota
Toyota Motor Corporation announced that in September they surpassed 7 million hybrid vehicles sold, making them the global leader in hybrid sales. "In 2000, Toyota introduced its Prius hybrid to the U.S., a marquee vehicle that established mainstream adoption of hybrid technology. Today, Toyota and Lexus hybrid sales in the U.S. are well over 2 million, and the Prius is on its way to becoming the no. 1 selling vehicle in California for the third year in a row."¹ In the U.S., Toyota (and Lexus) offers 12 hybrid models and one plug-in model, which account for 70 percent of industry hybrid sales. The Prius is the bestselling hybrid vehicle in history, with over 3 million units sold since its introduction. All of these hybrids on the roads have led to a reduction of CO2 emissions by an estimated 34 million tons, which the release equated with "taking 4.8 million vehicles off the road for an entire year."² And now Toyota has a new goal: to sell 5 million more hybrids in the US by 2016. Can we do it? It's up to the customer. Read the full Toyota USA press release here. These Active Safety Features Are Built Into Every Toyota
by Kelly O'Neill | Sep 17, 2014 | 802 Toyota
There's a reason 21 Toyota vehicles were named "Top Safety Picks" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2013. When it comes to you and the lives of others the most important feature in a vehicle is safety. Toyota has designed vehicles with this in mind. We all do our best to avoid accidents. But when the worst does happen, Toyota's are designed to help protect people from harm. That includes drivers, passengers and even pedestrians. So what makes a Toyota so safe? These active safety features are built into each and every Toyota: The Star Safety System The Star Safety System consist of Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Smart Stop Technology® (SST), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Traction Control (TRAC) TRAC can tell if a drive wheel is turning faster than the wheel on the opposite side, which can indicate a loss of traction. When TRAC detects slippage, the system can automatically reduce engine power until the wheel that is slipping slows and regains traction. If reducing engine power isn't enough, the braking system will slow that wheel by pulsing the brake of that wheel. Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) When the brakes are applied, and a wheel (or wheels) begins to decelerate faster than the others, the system can recognize that it's losing traction or locked up. In response, the system pulses the brake at that wheel until it begins to roll at the same speed as the others. Brake Assist (BA) Brake Assist is designed to detect sudden, or "panic," braking, and assist the driver...

5 Car Buying Myths vs the Truth
by Kelly O'Neill | Sep 2, 2014 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota
Let's just jump straight into this because many people think one thing when really they are misinformed. So here they are: 5 Common Car Buying Myths and Misconceptions vs the truth about car buying! Myth #1: All extended warranties are scams offered by the dealership just to make more money. The truth: The average new car costs over $25,600. With that cost, owners should want to protect their investment. Extended Warranties may be pricey, but you pay money up front to avoid paying considerably more money at the time of the repair. Click here to find out more about warranties and no cost maintenance. Myth #2 Financing through the dealer is always more expensive than getting outside financing. The truth: Some car dealerships have relationships with banks. The car dealership either owns the bank or vice versa. In some cases you just find that they deal with only ten banks. In any of the cases listed you will find that it may benefit you to look for your own loan through a bank first before approaching the dealer. The dealership can always give you an estimate for a car loan through them and you can compare the offers. For instance you may find due to the relationship with the car dealership the interest rate is actually a little lower for their customers. In some cases you may find that your bank offers a better interest rate because you have banked with them for over ten years. You don't have to sign for any car loan until you have actually done all of the research that makes you comfortable. Click...
The Importance of Research Before Buying a Vehicle
by Kelly O'Neill | Aug 25, 2014 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota
Car-buying tips to follow before you step into a car dealership Now is a good time to buy a new car. Rebates, financing, and trade-in values are the best they've been in a long time. A savvy buyer must always be ready, and the preparation should start before you ever step into a showroom. You will need to research before buying a vehicle in order to get the best deal. Below are 802 Toyota's tips to help you before you buy. First, you'll need to determine what your new car needs are. Get out your paper and pencil and use these ideas to help get you going: 1. Price: For most people who are not independently wealthy, price will shape many of the decisions related to choosing what kind of car you will purchase. Keep in mind that you'll have to factor in the price of auto insurance, fuel and maintenance costs to get the true price of driving a particular car. 2. Fuel Efficiency: With rising fuel prices, gas mileage has become an increasingly important factor in choosing a new car. If you must have a larger vehicle because of the number of passengers you transport, you will want to carefully compare mileage among available models in your size and price range. 3. Features and options: Is there a particular feature that your new car must have such as GPS, or anti-lock brakes, or an entertainment package? 4. Size: How many passengers need to ride in this car on a regular basis? 5. Safety: What safety features are a must-have for you? Next you will want to research...

Should You Lease or Buy a New Car?
by Kelly O'Neill | Aug 11, 2014 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota
There are many factors that go in to deciding whether to lease or buy a new car. Cost aside, it really comes down to your priorities, lifestyle, and what will work for you. Below are some pros and cons that can help you determine whether you should lease or finance a new car. Pros Substantially lower monthly payments. Down payments, if at all, are small. No up-front sales tax fees. No depreciation concerns. If you own a business and use the vehicle only for business purposes, you can claim it as a tax deduction. Cons Higher insurance premiums. You'll always have car payments. Penalties for exceeding allotted miles. This generally ranges between 15 to 25 cents per extra mile. Wear and tear fees, creating heightened concern when traveling with pets or small children. Pros Eventual ownership, freeing you from the pain of payments. After the vehicle is paid off, you're free to sell it at any time. You can drive it at will, never having to worry about mileage limits. No worries over minor mishaps like spilled coffee stains on carpeting or a dog-chewed seat belt. You're free to modify and/or accessorize. Insurance costs are generally lower than leased vehicles. Cons Monthly payments are higher than those of a leased vehicle. Dealers require a hefty down payment. Rapid depreciation, diminishing the vehicle's resale value. With extended use you can expect to incur repair bills. If you're still unsure about what would be the best option for you, or if you have any questions regarding leasing or financing, come in and meet with 802...
Save Money at the Pump with these Fuel Efficient Driving Tips
by Kelly O'Neill | Aug 4, 2014 | 802 Toyota
Not everyone has a fuel efficient vehicle like a hybrid, so here is a list to help you save money at the pump and put more cash in your pocket. 1. Driving more efficiently Drive Sensibly: Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33% at highway speeds and by 5% around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money. Avoid Hauling Cargo on Your Roof: A large, blunt roof-top cargo box, for example, can reduce fuel economy by around 2% to 8% in city driving, 6% to 17% on the highway, and 10% to 25% at Interstate speeds (65 mph to 75 mph). Avoid Excessive Idling: In Vermont, there is a law against idling your car for more than 5 minutes in a 60 minute period of time. Please be sure to abide by this law to protect the environment and to stop from draining your wallet and fuel tank. Idling can use a quarter to a half gallon of fuel per hour, depending on engine size and air conditioner (AC) use. Turn off your engine when your vehicle is parked. It only takes a few seconds worth of fuel to restart your vehicle. Oh and be sure to take your kids and pets with you. DO NOT leave them in a hot car for even a minute. 2. Keeping Your Vehicle in Shape Keeping Your Engine Properly Tuned: Fixing a car that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions test can improve its gas mileage by...

802Cars.com Officially Sponsoring Turn Off Texting Program
by cara | Apr 30, 2014 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802Cars.com Community, 802UsedCars.com, Twin City Subaru
We are happy to announce that we're officially sponsoring the Youth Safety Council of Vermont's Turn Off Texting program. Turn Off Texting is a free educational program that travels to schools throughout the state of Vermont and aids in simulating a real-life driving experience that shows teens the dangers of texting and driving. During the exercise, students attempt to navigate through a course of traffic cones while driving a golf cart. Students drive through the course twice, once focusing normally and once while texting. As you can imagine, this makes the dangers of texting and driving quite clear, as instructors explain that the cones that have been hit could easily be another vehicle or a pedestrian in a real-life situation. We are proud to be sponsoring a program that has proven tremendously effective in educating Vermont's youth on the dangers and repercussions of distracted driving. At 802 Cars, our goal is to help protect and educate youths about the dangers of texting and driving, no matter how safe their vehicle is. We are a set of community-driven new and used car dealerships, and we hope to help every Vermont driver – especially our youth – drive and arrive safely, every...

Originally, Toyota felt they were bold saying that 30 percent of vehicles would be hybrid by 2020, but now they believe that they're well on the way to that goal; 40 percent of their cars sold in Japan this year were hybrids, and 14 percent globally were as well. The Prius was the original and most-popular Toyota hybrid vehicle, and for good reason! Check out our new Toyota Prius inventory here. All information via The Wall Street Journal, photo via...

"2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Sets the Bar Pretty High"
by cara | Mar 8, 2013 | 802 Toyota
Jo Borras of Gas2 wrote a simple, quick and fantastic review of the 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid from this year's Chicago Auto Show. He starts off by saying that for him, the Avalon was the undisputed star of the show. It had "buttery soft leather" seating surfaces, black wood inserts, an instrument panel with dark woods and tight-fitting panels. "I loved the car. It is every bit as nice as any of the half-dozen Lexus models I've been in over the past year, and quite a bit nicer, roomier, and quieter than the GTRs, 911s, or BMWs that I regularly find myself in." Borras was impressed also by the the 40 mpg fuel economy. "I can't believe how nice this interior is! How can people possibly justy spending all that money on a new Lexus when they can get this for… $35,990." It appears the Avalon has a loyal fan! Check out the promotional video below, and be sure to check out our 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid or 2013 Toyota Avalon inventory here! (The one to the right is from our showroom at 802 Toyota – it's the 2013 Avalon, not the Hybrid. Looks great too!) All information via Gas2, first two images via Toyota, third image taken in...

More Details of the Redesigned 2014 Toyota Tundra
by cara | Feb 13, 2013 | 802 Toyota
The 2014 Toyota Tundra Debuts at the Chicago Auto Show Technology and fuel efficiency are two major factors for competitors when it comes to designing trucks. Toyota hasn't redesigned the Tundra since 2007, but with the 2014 Toyota Tundra, it's showing off both technology and added fuel efficiency. A 6.1-inch color touch screen with Toyota Entune is available and includes Bluetooth streaming, navigation and Pandora streaming audio. The center of the gauge cluster also plays home to an all-new 2.5-inch multi-information display. The exterior has a larger chrome grille; both the front and rear bumpers now have a three-piece design, which will aid in having less expensive replacement parts. The rear tailgate has an integrated spoiler to help with aerodynamics and therefore fuel efficiency. Fun fact: there are SR, SR5, Limited and Platinum trim levels, but also a 1974 Edition, which is a new trim reflecting a western lifestyle. It's a tribute to the ranch where the Tundra plant resides, which was founded in 1974. A backup camera is now standard on the 2014 Tundra, there's also a new blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert, which will be available on the Platinum and 1974 Edition trim levels. There are eight standard airbags as well as a new manual headlight leveling system that includes LED daytime running lights in order to make things easier when towing heavy loads (available on the Platinum and 1974 Edition). Pricing hasn't been announced yet – but is expected to be released alongside fuel economy information later on this summer. The 2014 Toyota Tundra is expected to hit dealerships in September. Can't wait...

Toyota and BMW to Make a Collaboration Sports Car
by cara | Jan 30, 2013 | 802 Toyota
Toyota has just entered an agreement with BMW to partner up and accomplish four things; 1. Namely developing a sports car by the end of the year 2. Develop hydrogen fuel cell system by 2020 3. Generate lightweight materials 4. Create next-generation lithium-based battiers These four areas of collaboration were outlined last year, and a memorandum of understanding was signed. Now the companies are in the next phase of enhancing their ties, according to GT Spirit. "In order for FCVs (fuel cell vehicles) to become more widely used, it needs to be cheaper. That would require a great deal of time and cost for development and by bringing together the wisdom of two companies, we can aim to make FCVs more popular much quicker," said Toyota Vice Chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada at a news conference with BMW in Japan. We'll keep you updated as we know more! This is Toyota's second huge collaboration, the last being with Subaru in the making of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86/Scion FR-S, which was hugely successful. Consumer Reports recently posted this video that is the first behind-the-wheel video of the all-new RAV4. Auto Spies sums up the video with a couple of important excerpts: "driving the RAV4 feels rather familiar. With firmer suspension, it feels more tied down yet still compliant. Cornering is relatively nimble with quick turn-in response and an even-keel attitude. The unobtrusive six-speed tanny contributes to swifter response…" As well as, "How do you update the model that started the whole small car-based SUV craze? Toyota Working on Hybrid System for the Scion FR-S / Toyota GT 86
by cara | Jan 11, 2013 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota
As some of you may already know, there are rumors of a turbocharged Subaru BRZ coming in the future; Toyota on the other hand, seems to be going a different direction. Instead of turbocharged, Toyota is planning a gasoline-electric hybrid that will increase the FR-S' output. Toyota is already testing the hybrid system in Japan in order to create a more powerful sports coupe. Although the cars share a design, it seems the automakers are planning to go in different directions. Subaru towards the straight turbocharged version, and Toyota, naturally, to the more fuel efficient yet still power-increasing gasoline-electric system. We'll let you know when we know more! In the meantime, check out our 2013 Scion FR-S inventory here. All information & image via egm car...
New Prius Has 60 MPG, e-4WD and Sleeker Design
by cara | Jan 9, 2013 | 802 Toyota
Motor Trend recently wrote a blog post about the next-generation Prius, which as they say will be "hugely ambiguous". After an interview with a Toyota engineer, they were well equipped with some exclusive info on the latest design. The new Prius is due in spring of 2015, with 60 MPG, new styling and the all-new e-4WD; its new all-weather traction system. "The rear wheels will be driven by a motor in what we call an e-4WD system. Targeting snowy areas, the rears will operate up to 37 mph. Above that speed, it becomes a purely front-wheel drive car," according to the engineer cited in Motor Trend's article. Sounds like a perfect addition for Vermont roads! And we've got until spring 2015, which means this is a perfect opportunity to check out our new Prius inventory here! All information & photo via Motor...
Toyota Testing "Smart" Cars
by cara | Jan 2, 2013 | 802 Toyota
Toyota is currently testing new car safety systems that are designed to allow vehicles to communicate with one another, as well as with the roads they're driving on. It build a whole town to do so in fact, which we wrote a post on last week; Toyota Builds Town in Japan to Test Safety Systems. A Toyota Lexus at the ITS facility in Japan The cars at the Intelligent Transport System site receive information from sensors and transmitters installed on the streets to minimize the risk of accidents in situations such as missing a red traffic light, cars advancing from blind spots and pedestrians crossing the street. The system also tests cars that transmit such information to each other," according to the article in the Detroit News. Toyota says that the smart-car technology will be tested on a few Japanese roads in 2014, and similar tests are in the works for the US. With this new technology the presence of a pedestrian triggers a beeping sound and pictured a person on the screen in the vehicle, a picture of an arrow indicates another car at an upcoming intersection, as well as an electronic voice notifying the driver of a red light if they're not slowing down. We'll keep you updated as we hear more about the releases of these new technologies! If you'd like to see what's available now, take a look at our new Toyota inventory here! Toyota Builds Town in Japan to Test Safety Systems
by cara | Dec 29, 2012 | 802 Toyota
In November, Toyota began operations at its new test site, the Intelligent Transport System Proving Ground. Located in Japan, the testing ground is 8.6 acres of urban environment-mimicking land. It has roads and traffic systems that allow Toyota to test active safety features that are difficult for them to perform on public roadways. Toyota says that these tests will accelerate research and development into advanced safety systems, and also testing environmental systems in order to improve fuel efficiency. Exhaust Notes blog gives the example, "If cars can talk to infrastructure… they'll know to slow down for an upcoming red light and save fuel." We didn't build a whole town, but we did build a new building! For more information, read the full article here. All information and image via Exhaust...
Toyota's City-EV Concept: The iiMO
by cara | Dec 20, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Last year, Toyota unveiled a new concept designed to be an all-electric city car, and deemed it the "Fun-Vii". More recently the concept has been renamed the iiMo and more details have arrived. Before we start, a reminder that this is a futuristic concept car is definitely in order! The iiMo has an immediately-customizable exterior and interior, as well as a virtual on-board concierge. On top of "navigation goodies", there's wireless recharging and drivers can compete in a videogame-like app that can be played behind the wheel. The All-New 802 Toyota is Now Open for Business!
by cara | Dec 12, 2012 | 802 Toyota
The heavily-anticipated opening of the new building has arrived; 802 Toyota Scion is now open for business right on schedule. The all-new 802 Toyota Scion was an initiative to create a building that was both environmentally friendly and self sufficient. Just honk your horn – we'll take it from there! Other innovative plans are ahead for 802's new facility; there is a rainwater harvesting system, where we will be able to harvest what flows naturally off of the roof to wash cars. Also in store is "waste oil recycling", where can recycle oil from vehicles and use it to heat the building. Among other additions, the 802 Toyota Service Center has added a covered service drive, where customers may simply drive their car in for service and won't have to exit outdoors in the case of unfavorable weather conditions. Like the sound of that? Head to our online Toyota Service Center here. And if you'd like to come check it out, please – feel free! Same great location – much better...
Toyota Announces Brand-New Safety Technologies
by cara | Dec 5, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Toyota has created two advanced safety features, which they presented at the 2012 Safety Technology Seminar. The first is called the Intelligent Clearance Sonar, and the other is Drive-Start Control. Intelligence Clearance Sonar is meant to reduce parking lot collisions by detecting objects out of the driver's sight, according to Autoblog. If a definite collision is detected, the system will hit the brakes automatically, as well as reduce engine power and sound an alarm. Drive-Start Control senses if the wrong gear has been selected while the driver is pressing down on the accelerator. This one is a little confusing to me – but their example is that if a driver bumps into something while in reverse, panics and quickly goes to shift gears while still pressing the accelerator – DSC will kick in. Toyota says that these new features will be available in the very near future. For more information, see the full press release and Autoblog article here. Image and info via...
Is This the Face of the New Toyota Prius Line?
by cara | Nov 28, 2012 | 802 Toyota
The Toyota FT-Bh Concept is not designed to be the face of the new Prius c, but it does have several features that The Fast Lane Car believes will be on the next generation Prius family vehicles. The FT-Bh concept uses compressed natural gas (CNG), which definitely won't be making it into showrooms soon, but since it has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any burnable fuel, let's hope it happens in the near future! The Toyota FT-Bh Concept, a plug-in hybrid Toyota, can get up to 134.5 mpg, weighing in at just 1,733 lbs. The interior in the photo looks like a concept interior, but The Fast Lane Car believes that the center console, steering wheel and center display look production ready for the next batch of Prii. What do you think? Yay or nay? If you're a bigger fan of the original Prius Hybrid, Prius c or Prius Plug-In Hybrid, click any of the model names to view our online inventory! New Toyota Fuel Cell Powers Building
by cara | Nov 21, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Even though Toyota will not be selling fuel cell vehicles in the US for a few years, it's already using the technology to power its Torrance facility. Toyota activated a 1.1-megawatt hydrogen fuel cell generator, which will supply roughly half of the electricity for six headquarters buildings while producing zero emissions. This will also save them roughly $130,000 annually in utility costs. It is the largest stationary fuel cell of its kind in operation, according to Toyota. Toyota plans to begin selling its first fuel cell vehicle in the US by 2015, but hasn't released any information about the vehicle, including price or model type. "Supporting alternative energy sources like hydrogen supports Toyota's overarching commitment to lessen our impact on the environment and drive forward innovative technology," said Toyota Motor Sales USA Senior Vice President Bob Daly. "Not only will this new hydrogen fuel cell generator reduce the environmental footprint of our headquarters campus, but it showcases the power and potential of hydrogen as a fuel source." Our new building at 802 Toyota is not fuel-cell powered, but it is environmentally friendly and self sufficient – so we're in the right direction 😉 For more information, please visit the article by the Los Angeles Times here. Stuff-A-Truck Day Two at 802 Toyota Scion & Twin City Subaru
by cara | Nov 16, 2012 | 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
It's the second day of the 11th Annual Stuff-A-Truck event being held outside of 802 Toyota's nearly-completed new building. Frank FM's TJ Michaels, Froggy's JD Green and numerous supporters have been outside with the truck, doing what they can to help Central Vermonters in need. "I've been doing this for 11 years," said TJ. "We do this for the Salvation Army mostly because I think each of us has a story to tell." TJ reflects on his past; remembering his early days as a disc jockey, coming home and looking into the fridge to find a bottle of ketchup and some baking soda. That was a time when the Salvation Army was helping him, and now he's giving back. This year's event is more important than ever – the Salvation Army Food Shelf has seen an increase in need for food by Vermont families by 155 percent over the last two years. Last year they broke records; raising over 18 tons of food and $12,000, but it was also the first time the Food Shelf's supply didn't last the whole year. TJ tells us that 1 in 6 Vermonters struggle for food, and even though you may think you don't know someone who is struggling like that, 10 percent of Vermonters use the Food Shelf at one point or another. It hits us close to home here, and we have to help. Vermont has pulled together strongly, especially after Irene. TJ says that we've encompassed the Vermont Strong theme, and to them it really means taking care of each other. This year they hope to fill more than just...

Twin City Subaru and 802 Toyota Scion to Host 11th Annual Stuff-A-Truck Event
by cara | Nov 12, 2012 | 802 Scion, 802 Toyota, Twin City Subaru
Hello fans! Here is our newly-released Press Release for the 11th Annual Stuff-A-Truck event, check it out: From Nov. 15-Nov. 17, 802 Toyota will host Frank's 11th Annual Stuff-A-Truck Food and Funds Drive to benefit the Central Vermont Salvation Army Emergency Food Shelf. Frank FM's TJ Marshall and Froggy's JD Green invite Vermonters to come and "Stuff the Truck" with canned foods, non perishables and monetary donations to help fellow Central Vermonters in need. 802 Toyota Scion and Twin City Subaru have been a part of the annual Stuff-A-Truck event for years, and continue their support by hosting this year's event outside of 802 Toyota's brand-new building. With the tagline "Neighbors Helping Neighbors", the Stuff-A-Truck event has helped feed Vermont families; raising 18 tons of food and thousands of dollars last year alone. According to Marshall and Green, however, we still need to do more. "…due to rising unemployment and tougher economic conditions, the Salvation Army is helping and feeding more and more Vermont families. The food raised last year only made it to the end of July this year," they wrote in their official Donation Location Collection Kit. The Salvation Army has seen a 155 percent increase in the number of families requesting assistance over the past two years, according to Michaels. Despite breaking their own record of food raised last year, they ran out earlier than in previous years. Now, they say, the public's help is needed more than ever. The drive goes on for 24 hours a day, which Michaels and Green have pledged to stay outside for until the truck is filled. "We don't go...

802 Toyota and the Central Vermont Humane Society Celebrate Win of New Toyota Sienna
by cara | Nov 8, 2012 | 802 Toyota
We just published a press release about the CVHS Van Party last weekend and thought our dedicated fans would love to have a look; so here it is!: East Montpelier, Vt. — On Nov. 3, 2012, fans and supporters of the Central Vermont Humane Society joined CVHS and 802 Toyota Scion by coming to the shelter to donate items from the shelter's wish list, including but not limited to cat litter, toys for the animals, paper towels and detergent in honor of the CVHS "Van Party". The Van Party was a celebration of CVHS's win of a brand-new Toyota Sienna van, courtesy of Toyota's 100 Cars for Good Program. Toyota's 100 Cars for Good is a national program where the automaker awards 100 cars to 100 nonprofits over the course of 100 days. During the voting phase, the 100 Cars for Good program profiles five finalists on their website. Winners were selected via public Facebook votes each day; beating out their competitors, CVHS took the win. Winners may choose between a variety of Toyota vehicles, and CVHS has accepted a Toyota Sienna to replace their current van. CVHS was in dire need of a new van. Theirs had been acting up frequently and wasn't as reliable as they needed it to be. "About 90 percent of the 1,100 animals CVHS cares for every year are in need of at least one vehicle trip during their stay. With this new Sienna van, we can spend more time helping animals and less time having to arrange reliable transportation," said Mary Taylor, CVHS executive director. "Thank you supporters for making this ride...
"Toyota Prius c Takes Efficiency and Value to the Max"
by cara | Nov 5, 2012 | 802 Toyota
The Fast Lane Car posted an extremely positive review of the Prius c, so I thought I'd share some of the highlights with you! Boasting 53 MPG, the Prius c has the best fuel economy in the United States without having an electric plug. The exterior has a unique design, with an aggressive front, optional fog lamps and tall, vertical lights in the rear – people take notice of the Prius c on top of its competitors. On the inside, the Prius c has a more standard gear lever (as opposed to the rest of the Prius family), being floor-mounted in the center as opposed to up on the center dash. The Fast Lane Car's writer says that his 6'2 frame fit nicely in the front with his kids in the back. There is ample storage in the back with the seats folded down, but not so much with them up. "Although there is a great variety of small cars on the market today, most of them make due with small, 4-cylinder engines and combined EPA ratings in the mid 30s MPG. Very few even approach the stellar efficiency of the Prius c, and none can match the value. The Prius c is in a class of its own," according to their post. Want to check it out? Toyota Says Hybrids and Fuel Cell Vehicles are the Future
by cara | Oct 31, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Hybrid Cars wrote a blog post regarding Toyota's decision to go in the direction of hybrid and fuel cell vehicles as opposed to EVs. Toyota Motor Europe CEO Didier Leroy recently said that Toyota believes more in plug-in hybrids than pure electric, and that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be the most promising in the not-too-distant future. "We have seen that costumers are not yet willing to compromise on range and they don't like the time needed to re-charge the batteries," said Leroy. "So even if we are ready with out production version of the iQ EV we think a plug-in hybrid solution offers a better way than pure electric for most costumer needs." Toyota is still debuting their Scion iQ EV, but their plan is to really grow their Hybrid Synergy line and pending FCV-R hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. "Our fuel cell car will emit no harmful emissions at all and will have a driving range of around 700 kms," he said. AKA roughly 435 miles. Not too shabby! What do you think? EVs, Hybrids or fuel cell vehicles? Or all three? If you'd like to check out our available hybrid vehicles, click any of the following model names for more details! Toyota Prius, Prius Plug-In Hybrid, Prius c, Prius v, Camry Hybrid and the Highlander Hybrid. Information & image via Hybrid...

Enjoy Vermont Foliage in a Toyota of your Choice for a Day!
by cara | Oct 11, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Vermont has the most beautiful fall foliage and sometimes the best place you can enjoy it from is right in your car. We're lucky to be surrounded by and driving on roads that are so lovely in (almost) every season. For this reason, we'd like to offer our customers our "Leaf Peeper Special", where you can rent a vehicle from 802 Toyota to drive around Vermont without having to worry about putting miles on your car! And hey, who doesn't love to drive somebody else's car for a day? 802 Toyota is offering rentals options for the Tundra, Tacoma, Corolla, Camry and Scion iQ! If you rent on the weekend, you can rent a Corolla, Prius or Scion iQ for just $19.95! Cold Hollow Cider Mill In honor of this special, we thought it'd be nice to suggest a few places that we think are excellent Leaf Peeping locations; a few that you drive to, and a few that you drive through. Our personal favorites to drive to are Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Ben & Jerry's, Cabot Creamery and really anywhere on Lake Champlain or in the mountains! My personal favorite is Cold Hollow – what better way to enjoy fall than with a cup of hot cider, a delicious cider doughnut and vast views of the surrounding mountains and scenery. Perfect Vermont. As far as driving through, we found this list of Vermont roads that currently have the best foliage in the state, marked by their "full color and near-peak", but I think 89 is picture perfect too! The Prius Plug-In Hybrid's MPG Explained
by cara | Sep 21, 2012 | 802 Toyota
What are the real benefits of driving electric? Are there any? Bear with me, this post has a lot of numbers! I did some serious math to figure out what the real benefits of owning a Prius Plug-In Hybrid versus owning a regular sedan (the numbers I used for comparison are from a Passat). Two reasons are behind this information; 1. I wanted to know, which means you may have as well. 2. This weekend is celebrating National Plug-In Day at 802 Toyota so what better time to get into the nitty gritty of the Prius Plug-In than right before Plug-In Day? The Prius Plug-In takes three hours to fully charge (only 1.5 hours if you have a 240-volt Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment outlet). People say it adds roughly $3 to their utility bill to charge, and there are free charging stations in Montpelier, so if you work in the area you have that convenience. If you don't, no problem. The Prius shifts seamlessly into Hybrid mode either when you've run out of electric charge or you manually switch to that mode. Meaning, if I commute from Burlington, Vt. to Berlin, Vt. daily, I can use my electric charge while in the city, switch to Hybrid on I-89, then switch back to Electric once I'm off the highway. The MPGe (electric) on the Prius is 95 MPGe, and Hybrid mode gets 50 MPG. Break it down: If I travel from exit 14W to exit 7 and back again on I-89, I spend 76 miles on the highway and 12 miles in the "city". The 12 miles of stop-and-go...
2014 Toyota RAV4 to Lose its Spare Tire!
by cara | Sep 19, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Last week Toyota showed off its new model line to a group of car dealers in Las Vegas, and the RAV4's spare tire was nowhere to be seen. The RAV4 has had its iconic spare tire since its release in 1994 on the first generation RAV, which was named the 1997 Automobile of the Year (to this day its Toyota's best selling SUV). What do you think about the change? In love with the spare? We've got your back; view our preowned RAV4 inventory or our new RAV4 inventory – both of which are fully equipped ;). Test Drive of the 2012 Toyota Tundra 4×4
by cara | Sep 12, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Times Free Press just published a test drive review of the 2012 Toyota Tundra, what they call "a sturdy work truck with a heart of a Lexus." After you've checked out the review, head to our website to browse our 2012 Toyota Tundra inventory too! Styling & Comfort A prominent grille and 18-inch alloy wheels give the Tundra "muscle and mass," while the front bucket seats with eight-way power give it some convenience. The Tundra has tons of room for its back passenger, and has the option of a 5.5, six or eight food bed. 2012 Toyota Tundra interior (image via onsurga.com) Driving Impressions The 2012 Tundra has the biggest V-8 engine available, which makes 381 hp and 401 pound-feet of torque. The number 10,000 represents two major things in the Tundra – how many pounds in can tow, and how many miles in between oil changes. It also comes with a sealed transmission, meaning it never needs to be flushed, which is a good feature for saving money. Bottom Line As the reviewer said, "A construction boss driving a Tundra projects an image of practicality and good taste. He also proves that he values top-notch build quality and a modicum of refinement." Review by Times Free...
The 2012 Toyota Yaris SE Hatchback
by cara | Sep 5, 2012 | 802 Toyota
The brutally-honest reviewer's test run of the 2012 Yaris SE Hatchback George Straton, blogger and self-proclaimed "brutally honest" reviewer just posted his own review of the 2012 Toyota Yaris SE Hatchback. What better review of a car than a brutally honest one? If you'd like to check out our 2012 Yaris inventory after reading, click here. "What was once raw and bland now sizzles," he begins. The Yaris SE has a bold front air dam, rear roof spoiler and lower diffuser, as well as 16-ich wheels. The driver's instrument cluster has relocated back to being in front of the driver, as opposed to the Yaris' more recent center-dash cluster, making it more conventional. On the sport model, there are black-on-white gauges, flat-bottomed steering wheel and four-speed automatic gearbox fully equipped with chrome and leather. The small Yaris gets 106 hp out of its 1.5L engine, which Straton agrees wouldn't typically impress an enthusiast. However, it's more power than the Mazda2 or new Fiat 500 – and the Yaris SE gets 32 MPG – while making it from 0-60 in nine seconds. To view Straton's full review and blog, click here. Or head to our website to view our 2012 Yaris inventory here. Review & photo via George Straton, Drive…He...
Tips for Save Driving & Avoiding an Accident
by cara | Aug 30, 2012 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
Why you Should Avoid the Driving Habit that Causes One-Third of all Fatal Crashes Avoid excessive speed. This one does seem obvious, but there are a few different ways of speeding other than just going above the speed limit. If you're operating a vehicle with a tow attached or are temporarily using a spare tire, you should adjust your speed as needed. Severe weather is another condition where you should slow down a bit while driving; "speeding has been cited as a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes." Examples of time saved on a 10-mile trip: At 55 MPH, the time it would take is 10 minutes and 54 seconds, time saved is 1 minute and 6 seconds, risk of crashing is 1.5 times higher than at 50 MPH. At 65 MPH, actual time to destination is approximately 9 minutes and 14 seconds, time saved is 2 minutes and 46 seconds, and increased risk is three times higher. At 75 MPH, actual time is 8 minutes, you will save 4 minutes, but the risk is six times higher. So remember, even if you're running late or are in a hurry, just go at a safe pace. Speeding won't get you there that much faster, and going the speed limit will at least get you there in one piece! Happy driving everyone! 100 Cars for Good
by cara | May 25, 2012 | 802 Toyota
On Monday, the Central Vermont Humane Society (CVHS) will compete with four other nonprofit organizations around the country in order to win a car from Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program. Toyota's Facebook Page will feature the five nonprofits, and based on how many votes each receives, a winner will be chosen. That winner will be rewarded with a choice between a "Camry Hybrid, Highlander SUV, Prius v Hybrid, Sienna minivan, Sienna Mobility or Tundra full-sized pickup. A six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty will also be provided for each vehicle, compliments of Toyota Financial Services," according to Toyota's press release regarding the campaign. This is the second year of Toyota's 100 Cars for Good, which is a national program that awards 100 nonprofits over 100 consecutive days. Toyota Prius Plug-In is Third Fastest-Selling Car in America
by cara | May 24, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Cars.com recently released a report saying that the Toyota Prius Plug-In had an on-the-lot lifetime of only five days. This puts it directly behind the BMW X3 and X5, both of which have a four-day lifetime before they're in the hands of their new owners. This isn't a surprise judging by the features Toyota has put on the Prius Plug-In. Here's a "short" list from Edmunds.com, "Standard equipment on the base model includes 15-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry/ignition, cruise control, full power accessories, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, heated front seats, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, Bluetooth (phone and audio streaming), a back-up camera, a navigation system, voice recognition and a six-speaker sound system featuring a touchscreen display, a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, an iPod/USB interface and satellite and HD radio. Toyota Working on Mood-Sensing Cars
by cara | Apr 19, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Toyota has spent several years developing technology for vehicles so that they can sense the mood of their driver, but now that technology is becoming more of a reality. Toyota is working on a program that will use over 230 facial-recognition sensors within the vehicle to determine the mood of its driver. Why you may ask? The first and most comprehensible reason is because of sleepy drivers, but there are other reasons too. According to the article, an agitated driver would be less likely to notice an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian than a driver in a calm or neutral state of mind, so the car will recognize the potential hazard and alert them in turn. The vehicle will also be able to notice when the driver is distracted, and will offer its aid in regaining focus on the road. One of Toyota's lead technology developers says that this is still a young project, but that we will see it in cars within six years. Information via MotorAuthority Image via Drive...

Toyota has unveiled its latest single-seat electric vehicle, the 2012 Coms. The Coms is designed with short trips in mind, being able to reach only 60 miles per hour. With a full charge the Coms is able to travel 31 miles and is even able to head into pedestrian areas and buildings (for Senior Citizens with limited mobility) because of its extremely small size. According to the article, the Coms takes as long to completely recharge as an iPad – roughly two hours. The Coms will go on sale in Japan later on in 2012, but we don't know if or when it will be coming our way. We'll keep you posted, but if you're still curious click here to check out the full article on Green Car Reports. Information and image via Green Car...
Redesign Toyota
by cara | Apr 13, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Starting with the GT 86, Toyota is beginning to go in a new, more exciting direction. They will still keep their original models, but will also be expanding to a sportier model line, comparable to the GT 86. CEO Akio Toyoda said that they will be involving fewer people with the design decision-making process, therefore making it simpler to approve designs and continue to production. Toyoda said that with too many people involved in the process, they were focusing on improving their negatives instead of focusing on their strengths – the latter is what they're planning on for the present and future. Keep your eyes out for more news on these exciting, upcoming models. We'll make sure you're the first to know. If you can't wait, or you're a fan of the pure practicality and overall quality of the current models, click to view our new and used online Toyota inventory. Information via autoblog Image via...
Jet-Fueled Toyotas Cover the Antarctic in Under Four Months
by cara | Apr 9, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Creating the longest expedition in polar exploration history, three Toyota Hilux vehicles traveled the Antarctic covering more than 43,500 miles in just four months. Each of the Hilux trucks covered their own 5,903 miles, breaking a world record. Over the last year (Nov. 2011-Feb. 2012), a team using ten Toyota Hilux trucks set up a fuel depot, installed a weather station and provided support to scientific expeditions. The team said that over the vast expeditions, none of the Toyotas needed any major fixes. Mostly, these trucks are really a must-see. Even though it's cold in Vermont, we're not quite in need of having a Hilux around. We do however have both the Tundra and the Tacoma, click the model names to view our new inventory, or check out our used Tundra and used Tacoma inventory here. Information & images via...

by cara | Apr 3, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Toyota will be unveiling a brand-new, US-designed sedan at the New York International Auto Show (April 6-15). This vehicle has been kept a huge secret, so there are no details to disclose except that it will be revealed alongside an updated Venza. While we don't have any information about the sedan just yet, a Toyota spokesperson said that it is definitely a production model and not just a concept. by cara | Apr 2, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Legally-blind Steve Mahan of California test drove Google's self-driving Toyota Prius last week (and by legally blind, I mean 95 percent). He successfully made a trip to both Taco Bell and the dry cleaner, as he joked behind the wheel "Look Ma, no hands!" Mahan said that he hopes self-driving vehicles are in the near future, because he would then be able to go where he wanted to and needed to at any time. Check out the video below to see Mahan's test drive, and keep checking back as we post updates on the evolution of self-driving cars. Video and information via NY Daily...
In 3 Days, Prius C Outsells Monthly Sales of Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf
by cara | Mar 26, 2012 | 802 Toyota
The new Prius C sold 1,201 units in just the first three days of its debut on the market, making it one of Toyota's fastest-selling vehicles, according to Toyota. Not only that, but its competitors, the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf sold less than that amount in the entire previous month. In Japan, Toyota took more than 120,000 orders in the first five days. I guess it's very popular there, eh? The Prius family has sold more than 10,000 in the U.S. since the beginning of March, and Toyota estimates that they will sell roughly 220,000 this year (after selling 136,463 last year). Want one too? Don't blame you. I can say as a Prius owner there's just nothing like filling your tank once a week, even with a 45-minute commute. Check out our Prius inventory online to browse our selection and see if rare fill-ups and an exceptional vehicle are for you! Information for article and photo via...
802 Toyota Goes Green With New Environmentally-Friendly Building
by cara | Mar 24, 2012 | 802 Toyota
After a recent change of name, 802 Toyota (formerly Courtesy Toyota Scion) will be facing another huge transition; a new building. 802 Toyota currently employs over 50 Vermonters, and is expecting to grow significantly with its new state-of-the-art facility. This new edition is a green initiative for 802, with a focus on creating a building that is both environmentally friendly and self sufficient. "We're going to be a zero-landfill facility; we'll throw away less garbage than the average household," said Dave Birmingham, owner of 802 Toyota. They will be able to recycle roughly 70 percent of the former building; the materials won't be used in the new building, but they will be salvaged and harvested to avoid dumping materials into a landfill. Other innovative plans are ahead for 802's new facility; there will be a rainwater harvesting system, where they will be able to harvest what flows naturally off of the roof to wash cars, said Birmingham. Also in store is "waste oil recycling", where 802 can recycle oil from vehicles and use it to heat the building. "We're trying to be electricity neutral," Birmingham explains. "We're installing solar panels on the roof and hope to be completely self-sufficient on electricity." The green initiative is one focus of the new building, but also important to 802 is aiding local economy, increasing health and above all, enhancing the customer experience, said General Manager Todd Mobley. Among other additions, the 802 Toyota Service Center will be adding a covered service drive, where customers may simply drive their car in for service and won't have to exit in the case of unfavorable...Neal Bates and the Good Old Celica

Toyota Makes New App for Car
by cara | Mar 1, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Toyota and Samsung are joining forces to create an app in which Samsung smart phones can connect to entertainment and information systems installed in Toyota vehicles. This will enhance connectivity, multimedia capabilities and Internet services, according to the article. The Samsung Car Mode will make it possible for users to use voice commands alongside navigation and location services. The marketing will begin for this app later on in the year, so don't expect it right away, but it is coming very soon. As much as I think this is very cool, I'm wishing that Toyota paired with Apple… but only because I'm going to be very jealous of Samsung users when this one comes out. Have a Samsung? Want the app but don't have a Toyota? No problem. Check out our new and used inventory online or stop by 802 Toyota for more information today! Image and info via Social...

How your Phone and Computer are Taking Tolls on your Life
by cara | Feb 22, 2012 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
A recent study by Harvard University shows that easy access to the web and search engines have actually taken a toll on how a person's memory functions – and not in a good way. The study shows that when people know they can access certain facts or information online they are less likely to try to remember it. This situation is comparable to a scenario where if your significant other knows your mutual friend's birthday, you rely on them to know it for you and thus store the person who knows the information as the information itself. The same works with the Internet; if you know you can find something online, you store the Internet in general as the information. That's the computer part, now for your phone. Research from the University of Maryland has shown that people who are engaging in their cell phones are less likely to participate in "prosocial" behavior. The study shows that our need to connect with others is filled by connecting to our phone, or even thinking about our phones. People in the study who were merely asked to draw pictures of their phones also had a drop in prosocial behaviors. As people I think we can relate to the truth in both of these studies. As someone who works in front of a computer, I run a Google search at least 30 times a day to either find out something new or to cross reference a fact. As for the second study, we've all been out with a friend who (instead of communicating with us) is playing on their Smartphone. It's not exactly enjoyable,...

What is the $10,000 Incentive to Buy a Plug-In Vehicle?
by cara | Feb 16, 2012 | 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com
President Obama has a new budget proposal that eliminates federal tax credit for plug-in vehicles. With the tax credit comes an incentive that could cut up to $10,000 off of the purchase price of plug-ins. So far onlookers, including The Wall Street Journal say that this proposal has no way of passing in its current state. But wouldn't it be nice if the Prius Plug-In were $10,000 cheaper, just for being a plug-in? On the same note, Montpelier is offering free electric vehicle charging at City Hall for the next year. The parking space is located behind City Hall and there's no need to pay a meter while you're charging. City Manager William Fraser said that he hopes this will increase the market for EVs in Vermont. Happy charging! For the full article, click here. Become a Morning Person in 20 Minutes
by cara | Feb 7, 2012 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
Morning people. I think it's common knowledge that just about everyone who isn't a morning person in one way or another wishes they were. There's nothing like waking up all groggy-eyed, stumbling around the house before work. And if you're like me and are comatose until you've had some coffee, well, you don't know what it's like to be a morning person. And neither do I. Here's a shiny ray of hope. Simply wake up 20 minutes earlier each day until you've established a new circadian rhythm. Meaning, if you typically wake up around 7:45 a.m. and would like to be more of a 6 a.m. riser, set your alarm to 7:25 the first day, 7:05 the second, until you've reached your 6 a.m. destination. Eventually, you'll start getting sleepier 20 minutes earlier, too. Try to avoid stimulating lights before bed when you're adjusting to your new bed time, and when you wake up in the morning – get right up and go for the light switch. Painful, I know. I haven't tried this yet but there's no reason for me to believe it wouldn't work. It would be worth it not to struggle through the first 30 minutes of the day just by getting up 20 minutes earlier, so we'll see how to goes! For the full article, click here. How to Become a Regular at Your Favorite Restaurants, or Wherever
by cara | Feb 2, 2012 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
We all know what it's like to feel like a regular somewhere. Or at least we've seen someone else reaping the benefits. Here are a few ways Lifehacker says you can become a regular at your favorite establishments: 1. Make your visits part of a routine 2. Always sit in the same place at the same time (this doesn't mean demanding to seat in the same seat, but if the option's there, take it) 3. Take an active interest, but allow yourself to be educated ("share your own thoughts and ask questions") 4. Order and buy the same things (once you get to be a real regular, you won't have to order them at all!) To check out the full article, click here. via...
How to: Win a 2012 Camry for yourself, and for a friend
by cara | Feb 1, 2012 | 802 Toyota
In a press release that came out this morning, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. announced a marketing campaign that is integrated with Shazam mobile. It enables viewers to use the Shazam app to enter for a chance to win two new 2012 Camrys – one for themselves, and one for a friend. This contest will be on television broadcast Sunday, Feb. 5. This campaign is designed to trigger the "Camry Effect", offering app users the option to gift a Camry while receiving one themselves (if chosen for the win). The Camry Effect is an initiative by Toyota to bring over 7 million Camry drivers (and former drivers) together via online, television, mobile and social media channels. Quoted in the press release, "'The Camry Effect is one of the most ambitious social media campaigns we've ever implemented," said Dave Nordstrom, vice president of digital marketing at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "Partnering with Shazam allows us to increase awareness of this effort on the national stage and give one lucky winner the opportunity to positively affect a friend and start writing his or her own Camry story.'" You can enter one of two ways – view the spot online and use Shazam when prompted by the ad, or fill out an entry form online. The winner will be notified on the night of Feb. 5. If this plan for a new Camry fails, check out our online inventory of the 2012 Camry. Or visit our used inventory page to pick up a used one. What position will Toyota play in the Superbowl?
by cara | Jan 31, 2012 | 802 Toyota
Toyota released its Superbowl ad yesterday morning, so take a look at the commercial created to take place during America's most-anticipated sports showdown of the year. I'll be honest – I just learned football. What I say is, last year I learned the rules, this year I understand them, and next year I'll care. This isn't entirely true – I diligently watched this year's season and did care, especially when the Patriots scraped through the AFC Championships with the help of a botched field goal. In any event, the Superbowl has always been the only time of the year for me (and most likely many others) to thoroughly enjoy commercials. With that said, Toyota's ad posted below is funny to watch as well as being worthy of the hyped-up Superbowl advertising. I wouldn't necessarily want to send babies back in time, but I could sure use some golf and soft-serve ice cream when I go to the DMV. Couldn't we all? And if this ad makes you want to be a proud owner of a 2012 Camry, look no further – we currently have 13 brand-new Camrys in stock. Check them out by clicking...

How to: Conserve your phone's battery life, and save money by effortlessly using less heat and electricity
by cara | Jan 19, 2012 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
It's starting to get much colder outside, so among other things that usually cost us money, heat prices are beginning to do their annual skyrocket. Check out this episode posted by Lifehacker on effective ways to conserve heat while protecting your wallet. This video also shows ways to save money on electricity by using inexpensive tools and gadgets, and also features ways to keep your smart phone's battery running for longer. This video is a little on the long side, but just watch until minute six to get the important stuff (the rest is about stopping Carrier IQ, so if you're not having a problem with that just watch the first six minutes!). Lifehacker shows some really good ways to save money; a few of the gadgets they show of course cost you something initially, but it looks like they'd be real lifesavers in the long run (most of the products are still only between 10 and 50...
Which new Toyota looks like a Lamborghini?
by cara | Jan 18, 2012 | 802 Toyota
According to Digital Trends, Toyota Engineering Society showed up at the Tokyo Auto Salon with their all-new, custom-made TES-ERA EV electric sports coupe. This car looks awesome. Do you want to drive James Bond's car?
by cara | Dec 9, 2011 | 802 Honda, 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com, 802UsedCars.com
Well, ours isn't the exact vehicle driven in the James Bond movie, but it's close (and it's the same color). Click to check it out on our website and read below for a couple of fun facts and interesting stories about the famous Ford Mustang. (This one on the left is ours!) The Ford Mustang was featured in James Bond's Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and in Steve McQueen's Bullitt (1968). We have the '66 in stock, and car enthusiasts say ours is better than the two. The '66 Mustang is said to be the best Mustang built to date. In 1966 Ford sold its millionth Mustang, and made a name for itself as a vehicle of power and performance. According to an MSN article on James Bond's famous vehicle, Mustang enthusiasts weren't as in love with the '71 Mustang in the film, but immensely preferred its 1960s predecessor. Bullitt's '68 Mustang is in a renowned car chase with a '68 Charger, earning the film (specifically the scene) an Oscar for best editing. In Diamonds Are Forever, Bond uses Tiffany Case's '71 Mustang to escape local police, famously driving over roofs of other vehicles and most notably tipping onto its side wheels to squeeze down a narrow alley. (Note: more notable is the famous blooper in this scene, where Bond goes in the alley on the wheels of one side of the car, and comes back out on the wheels of the other side.) The toy version of Bond's (or rather, Tiffany's) Mustang is sold as a collector's item for between 300-800 dollars, and the original vehicle from the film...

How to: Steal a Prius
by cara | Oct 27, 2011 | 802 Toyota
Ever wanted to know how to steal a car with a Smart Key? It's certainly not easy – well actually it's almost impossible. So if you find by the end of this article that you'd like to own one of the most difficult-to-steal cars out there, view our Prius inventory here. I was parked at my friend's house on South Williams St. in Burlington, I stopped there for about an hour to pick up tickets she had bought be for my birthday. Unfortunately, receiving the tickets ended up being the least eventful part of my evening. As I walked outside to leave at around 11 p.m., I looked around to where I thought I had parked – no sign of my car. This can't be possible. My car was nowhere to be seen. I walked around the parking lot for a few minutes clicking incessantly on the unlock button of my key, but to no avail. The Prius was actually gone. Of course the first thought that came into my head was that it had been towed. It is after all a private lot, but I had parked there so many times that I figured I would be fine for the short time I was there. I had to get home and everything I needed for work was in my car, so I immediately called Spanelli's to see if I could retrieve my Prius that night. After I gave all of my information to the woman on the phone, she told me that she'd check the lot, have an employee check the Handy's lot and send a dispatch out...What's this light mean? by cara | Jul 12, 2011 | 802 Toyota, 802Cars.com
Dave Birmingham dave@vtcars.com 802-229-9117 COURTESY TOYOTA SCION OF BERLIN MAKES FINAL CHANGE TO NAME AND LOGO Owner Dave Birmingham releases the name change of the Courtesy dealership to "802" Toyota Scion BERLIN, Vt., July 11, 2007 — As of today Courtesy Toyota Scion has officially changed its name to 802 Toyota Scion. "The change comes after months of searching for the right moniker," said Dave Birmingham, owner and Dealer Principal, "We are very happy with the choice of 802 Toyota. After literally hundreds of suggestions, 802 Toyota and 802 Scion fit perfectly with the role we play with Toyota for Vermont. We are the most centrally-located Toyota Scion dealership in the state." Birmingham believes that the new name is symbolic for Vermonters and is something they can identify with. "It's a brand that we all take pride in, almost like 'Made in Vermont,'" he said.
